Lead Exam Prep Courses Available

NATEC offers Lead Supervisor / Project Monitor and Lead Inspector / Risk Assessor State Exam Preps taught by our highly qualified, industry-proven instructors. California requires certification exams for Lead Inspector/Assessors, Lead Supervisors, and Lead Project Monitors. There are separate exams for each of these three types of certificates. Lead Workers and Sampling Technicians are not required to take a certification exam, however, they are still required to apply to CDPH for certification.

Lead Inspector / Risk Assessor

The purpose of the certification examination is to determine if the Lead Inspector / Assessor candidates possess the necessary knowledge and abilities associated with performing the Inspector / Assessor job duties. 

This Lead Inspector / Risk Assessor State Prep Exam class provides a review of the HUD Guidelines, chapters 1,3,5,6,7,9,11,12,15,16,18 and includes the study of other pertinent regulations: DPH Title 17, Title 8 CCR 1532.1 and SB460. The final 90 minutes is devoted to a Mock State Exam with questions paralleling those from past State Exams. Attendance at this event will enhance your chances of passing the State of California Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor Exam.

Lead Supervisor / Project Monitor

The purpose of the Lead Abatement Supervisor / Project Monitor certification is to determine if the candidates possess the necessary knowledge and abilities to safely and successfully perform the Supervisor / Project Monitor  job duties.

Supervisor:

Lead Supervisor / Project Monitor State Prep Exam class provides a review of the HUD Guidelines (Chapters 8, 10, 11, & 12)and California Code of Regulations (Title 17, 8, & 22 CCR) as it relates to Regulatory Requirements, H&S, Sample Collection & Analysis, Abatement Options, Containment/Cleanup/Clearance, and Admin. Duties.

Project Monitor:
This test preparation class provides a review of HUD Guidelines (Chapters 5, 7, & 15), California Code of Regulations (Title 8, 17, CCR), & Code of Federal Reguations (Title 40 CFR) as it relates to State & Federal Regulatory Requirements, Lead Hazard Evaluation, Admin. Duties, Clearance Inspection, Sampling Protocols/Procedures, Abatement Options, Containment/Barrier Systems, Waste Issues, Air Monitoring, & H&S.

CAC/CSST Exam Prep Courses Available

This course is intended to prepare students for the CSST and CAC certification exams. There will be simulated test conditions and environment. During this time the focus will be on exam topics and test taking strategies. There will be focus on the mathematical/computational questions of the exam as well as time for a Q&A period.

CAC/CSST Background Information

Beginning July 1, 1992, State law has required Asbestos Consultants and Site Surveillance Technicians be certified by the Division of Occupational Safety and Health if they contract to provide professional health and safety services relating to asbestos containing construction materials that comprise 100 or more square feet of surface area. The regulations pertaining to certification are contained in Title 8, California Code of Regulations Division 1, Chapter 4, Subchapter 4, Section 1529 and Chapter 3.2, Article 2.6, Section 341.15.

This exam is for Asbestos Consultants and Site Surveillance Technicians who are required to become certified or for qualified individuals who voluntarily wish to become certified.

Certified Asbestos Consultant

A CAC is defined in Title 8 of the California Code of Regulations (T8CCR) section 1529 as any person who contracts to provide professional health and safety services relating to asbestos containing construction material, which comprises 100 square feet or more of surface area.  The activities of an Asbestos Consultant include building inspection, abatement project design, contract administration, sample collection, preparation of asbestos management plans, clearance monitoring, and supervision of Site Surveillance Technicians.

Prerequisites​

Required Professional Work Experience and Education consisting of any one of the following:

  1. One year of asbestos related experience and a bachelor of science degree in engineering, architecture, industrial hygiene, construction management, or a related biological or physical science; or
  2. Two years of asbestos related experience and a bachelor’s degree; or
  3. Three years of asbestos related experience and an associate of arts degree in engineering, architecture, industrial hygiene, construction management, or a related biological or physical science; or
  4. Four years of asbestos related experience and a high school diploma or its equivalent.

NOTE: Qualifying asbestos related work experience cannot be credited unless the applicant is in possession of the appropriate valid AHERA training certificates during the time being claimed as qualifying work experience. No work experience will be accepted as qualifying for the time before the applicant received their initial AHERA training or for times when the applicant was not in possession of the appropriate valid AHERA training certificates.

Certified Site Surveillance Technician

A CSST is defined in T8CCR 1529 as any person who acts as an independent on site representative of an Asbestos Consultant.  The Site Surveillance Technician monitors the asbestos abatement activities of others, provides asbestos air monitoring services for area and personal samples, and performs building surveys and contract administration at the direction of an Asbestos Consultant.

Prerequisites

Required Work Experience and Education, including:

Six (6) months of asbestos related work experience under the supervision of a Certified Asbestos Consultant and a high school diploma or equivalent education. After three (3) months of qualifying work experience, an applicant may request to sit for the certification exam.  However, the additional three (3) months of qualifying experience must be completed before the certification card can be issued to that person.  The additional experience must be verified by the individual(s) having direct knowledge of the applicant’s experience and must use form BP 7180A.

NOTE: Qualifying asbestos related work experience cannot be credited unless the applicant is in possession of the appropriate valid AHERA training certificates during the time being claimed as qualifying work experience. No work experience will be accepted as qualifying for the time before the applicant received their initial AHERA training or for times when the applicant was not in possession of the appropriate valid AHERA training certificates.
