Description
This course is designed for any laboratory – college/university, commercial, medical, or industrial – that creates, uses, processes, or stores hazardous chemicals to which personnel may be exposed or with which technicians may regularly work or come into contact. It meets the requirements for technician training set forth in California Code of Regulations (CCR) Title 8 §5191 “Occupational Exposure to Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories” and 29 CFR 1910.1450 “Occupational Exposure to Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories standard” and the EPA’s Safety, Health and Environmental Management Guidelines, 1997.
The purpose of the course is to educate laboratory workers on the safe practices that must be followed when working with harmful and/or potentially hazardous chemicals, and the requirements for employers to create and manage a Chemical Hygiene Plan that spells out responsibilities of both the employer and employees when dealing with chemicals in the laboratory that have to potential to cause death, fire, health or other physical danger to life and/or property.
