Target Audience: 

Designed for individuals who are poised to assume command of hazardous materials incident scenes, particularly those taking over from the initial First Responder on the scene. 

Course Description: 

NATEC’s HAZMAT Incident Commander Training 16-Hour classroom course delves deep into the responsibilities and complexities faced by those in command at HAZMAT emergencies. This hands-on training encompasses not only the theoretical understanding but also the practical and legal requirements incumbent on Incident Commanders. Participants will engage in decision-making training, supported by tabletop exercises, case studies, and interactive class activities, ensuring they are adept at effectively managing hazardous situations.  

The course is rooted in the guidelines of OSHA’s HAZWOPER regulation 29 CFR 1910.120(q) and Title 8 5192(q)6e, and reinforces the competencies that Incident Commanders need to uphold.  

Prerequisites: 

For a complete HAZMAT Incident Commander certification, participants must also complete the following: 

– First Responder Operations: 24 Hour Training or – ICS-100: A pivotal course that can be undertaken for free at fema.gov. 

Together, these courses, along with the 16 Hour HAZMAT Incident Commander course, fulfill the 24-hour training requirement for a HAZMAT Incident Commander.
